Geneva – Sims Lifecycle Services (SLS), a global leader in IT asset disposition (ITAD) and electronics recycling, announces its participation in the Circular Electronics Partnership. This group, led by the World Economic Forum and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBSCD), brings together member organizations who represent the entire electronics supply chain.

Involvement from Sims Lifecycle Services includes pertinent contributions at meetings, creation and review of pathway reports, and collaboration with other pathway group members to discover benefits. These efforts all contribute to the development of a roadmap for circular electronics.

Jelle Slenters, head of business development, EMEA stated, “In order to achieve a circular economy for electronics we need to collaborate with manufacturers, retailers, academia, government organizations and representatives from the entire electronics ecosystem.”

Slenters continued, “ITAD providers like Sims Lifecycle Services have an important role in supporting the development of a new vision for electronics to facilitate eco-design, dematerialization, takeback programs and increased levels of reuse and closed-loop recycling”.

“Over the past few years we have seen exponential growth in the amount of electronic material entering the market,” said Sean Magann, global VP of sales and marketing for Sims Lifecycle Services. “Equipment types are changing and data centers are growing significantly. Collaborating to ensure environmentally responsible disposition of that material is crucial to our goal at Sims Lifecycle Services – To create a world without waste to preserve our planet.”

Each year approximately 50 million tonnes of electronic and electrical waste (e-waste) are discarded and less than 20 percent is formally recycled. The Circular Electronics Partnership is committed to developing a shared vision, snapshot and roadmap for circular electronics.
