Understanding Industry Standards
R2v3 Certification for Electronics Recycling and Asset Management Centers
R2v3 (Responsible Recycling Standard, Version 3) is the current and most stringent version of the globally recognized standard for managing used electronics responsibly. It was developed by Sustainable Electronics Recycling International (SERI) and focuses on data security, environmental protection, worker health and safety, transparency and traceability, reuse and the circular economy.
Most SLS Circular Centers are R2v3 certified as indicated in the chart above.
ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Certification
ISO 14001:2015 is the international standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS). It provides a framework for organizations to:
Identify and manage environmental aspects of their operations.
Fulfill compliance obligations.
Continually improve environmental performance.
Most SLS Circular Centers are 14001:2015 certified.
ISO 45001 Health and Safety
ISO 45001:2018 is the international standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. It provides a structured framework to manage workplace risks, improve safety performance, and enhance employee well-being. The standard emphasizes leadership, worker participation, hazard identification, and continual improvement.
Most SLS Circular Centers globally operate in alignment with ISO 45001, supported by our own internal safety program, which integrates recognized best practices into our safety culture.
ISO 9001:2015 Certification – Commitment to Quality
ISO 9001:2015 is the international standard for Quality Management Systems (QMS). It provides a framework for organizations to consistently deliver products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements. Compliance with ISO 9001:2015 demonstrates SLS’s commitment to defined quality processes, supported by accurate records, defect prevention, and corrective actions when necessary. Our quality system is regularly reviewed for effectiveness, ensuring continual improvement and a culture focused on excellence.

ISO 27001 Certification – Security
ISO 27001:2013 is the international standard for Information Security Management Systems (ISMS). It provides a framework for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving information security to protect data confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Certification ensures that SLS has robust processes in place to minimize security risks and comply with regulatory requirements. We regularly review and enhance our security practices across all facilities, adopting internal best practices and operating with a philosophy of continual improvement.

Blancco ITAD Gold Partner
SLS has earned Gold Partner status with Blancco, leveraging Blancco’s industry-leading data erasure software within our online asset tracking and management system. This integration enables secure, auditable data sanitization and delivers added value to clients through streamlined compliance and reporting.
Data Security
All data destruction services provided by SLS are NIST 800-88 r1 certified.
NIST Special Publication 800-88 Revision 1 (Guidelines for Media Sanitization) provides recommendations for securely destroying data from electronic storage media to prevent unauthorized recovery. It defines three primary data destruction methods including “Clear”, “Purge” and “Destroy”.
CAS S Certification
CAS(S) (Commodity Assured Service – Sanitisation) is an assurance scheme operated by the UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). It certifies commercial providers of IT asset sanitisation services to ensure compliance with HMG Information Assurance policies, including Infosec Standard 5 (IS5) for secure data sanitisation and destruction.
MAR (Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher)
SLS is a Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher (MAR), ensuring that all compatible refurbished laptops and PCs are preinstalled with genuine Microsoft Windows operating systems. This certification guarantees authenticity, security, and compliance, providing customers with reliable devices ready for use.
WEEELABEX
WEEELABEX (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Label of Excellence) is a European certification scheme that sets harmonized standards for the collection, treatment, and recycling of WEEE.
Our Circular Center in the Netherlands is WEEELABEX certified.
Global Recycling Certifications
Many certifications are global in scope. Based on regional requirements and conditions, some accreditations are regionally based, addressing local laws and industry practices.
Australasia – AS/NZS 4801 – regional occupational health and safety standard.
Germany – EfbV – aligned to WEEE standards.
