Edge Data Center Decommissioning

Edge data centers provide an important bridge between larger data centers and data sources, often near population centers. These edge data centers, or MMDCs (micro-modular data centers) provide an extra boost in local capacity when needed. MMDCs are prefabricated and self contained data centers that include servers and IT infrastructure, mechanical and electrical support.

SLS is uniquely positioned to support the decommissioning of these units.  Working together with our sister company, Sims Metal, SLS provides a turnkey solution in dismantling MMDCs, securing data and maximizing value recovery across the globe. Together, we can fully support the heavy lifting of moving and disassembling the entire data center. SLS supports decommissioning of server racks and data destruction. After dismantling SLS redeploys, resells or recycles the servers, hard drives and networking equipment. Sims Metal handles the repurposing or recycling of electrical and mechanical components (HVAC, cabling and security components). Both SLS and Sims Metal are experts at evaluating and determining disposition efforts to maximize value recovery from retired MMDC equipment.
