Sims Lifecycle Services has partnered with Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity (RCHFH) to provide front doors for the next 10 Habitat houses being built in the new Legacy Pointe subdivision of affordable housing.

“We’ve had a wonderful ongoing relationship and support from Sims over the years,”, stated RCHFH Executive Director Terri Shultz. “This donation of front doors is an extra gift that represents the opportunity of affordable homeownership.”

The first three doors will be installed in the 2021 Spring Build, which just started construction. Habitat Future homeowners include Penny, recently retired from the TN Technology Center; Sung and UT, who immigrated from Myanmar due to extreme poverty; and Sabrina, the 2021 Women Build homeowner. The Spring Build houses will be completed by June.

Legacy Pointe will eventually have 77 new homes for families who complete the Habitat program, which includes 30 weeks of Financial Literacy and Homeowner Education and 300‐400 hours of sweat equity. The families for the Fall 2021 Build are currently being selected from applications submitted in February. Habitat Future Homeowners earn 30‐80 percent of the Area Medium Income (AMI) and often do not qualify for a traditional mortgage. In fact, many low‐moderate income families spend over 50 percent of their monthly income on rental housing. Through the Habitat program they will buy their home with a low‐interest mortgage, acquire wealth equity and their monthly mortgages are often much less than their current rental housing.

“The Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity continues to demonstrate how a community can come together to take action in support of the vital need for affordable housing,” stated David Porterfield, plant manager for Sims Lifecycle Services, LaVergne. “SLS is proud to support this cause and help families attain their dream of homeownership. We are passionate about building trusted relationships with our community neighbors, and we consider it to be one of the main catalysts for driving our sustainability progress and support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”

About Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity (RCHFH)
Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity, a non‐profit, non‐denominational Christian housing ministry, seeks to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope. This is done through building quality, energy‐efficient, affordable houses while partnering alongside working families. Homes are built by RCHFH construction staff, Future Homeowners, and community volunteers. After a home is completed, it is sold to the family at no profit with an affordable monthly mortgage.
