microsoft-authorized-refurbisherEveryone likes scoring a good deal on a great product. Now customers seeking a cost-effective way to meet their company’s computing needs have a new partner they can turn to: Sims Recycling Solutions. Earlier this year the electronics recycler’s North American operations joined the Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher program.

The Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher program is a licensing program that enables large refurbishers—those shipping at least 1,000 PCs per month—to sell refurbished computers, laptops, and servers with genuine Microsoft software preinstalled to businesses, consumers, and nonprofits.

“By participating in this program, we give our customers the opportunity to purchase professionally refurbished devices with the full functionality they expect and need,” said Steve Skurnac, president, Sims Recycling Solutions, Americas. “We can now provide a quality product at a great value that has the added benefit of reducing e-waste by considerably extending the useful lives of these computers.”

A refurbished computer is a used machine that has undergone data erasing, testing, and, if necessary, minor repairs or component replacement so the equipment is ready for use by a new owner. The ability to safeguard data is the foundation of a responsible refurbishment program because data security breaches can have devastating financial and legal consequences for businesses and consumers. For this reason, all refurbishers participating in the Microsoft Refurbisher program must adhere to stringent data wiping standards to effectively erase the data on all reused hard drives.

Beyond demonstrating compliance with established data security standards, Microsoft partners must also adhere to all applicable local health, safety, and environmental regulations. “We are committed to working with sustainable enterprises; partners who are committed to reducing the amount of e-waste sent to landfill,” said Phil Bowery, U.K. MAR lead and business consultant to Microsoft.

Justin Amiro, remarketing sales manager, Sims Recycling Solutions, Americas, anticipates that being able to offer customers complete and low-cost PC solutions will unlock new opportunities for the company. “By joining the Microsoft Refurbisher program, Sims can now sell computers to customers who are looking for a finished product at a reasonable price. They can be assured the software is legitimate and will have all the support from Microsoft that comes with genuine software.”

Bowery agrees. “For Sims, this is a differentiator in a crowded marketplace because it tells the market that you’re committed to offering the best quality and the best value to your customers. Customers are guaranteed legitimate Windows, Office, and Server licenses on the PCs they buy, reducing the risk of software malfunctions, which makes resale far simpler and more profitable.”
