January 7, 2021

2020 was a difficult and challenging year for many reasons however, these challenges also introduced some opportunities. As the global pandemic continues to affect both our personal and professional lives let’s take a moment to reflect.

In early 2020 Sims Recycling Solutions announced their new Sims Lifecycle Services (SLS) brand name. A statement by Ingrid Sinclair, SLS Global President explained that this new brand name “more accurately represents the wide array of services we offer, including redeploying and reusing IT assets and their components, to the final recycling of the materials.”

By March, restrictions and stay-at-home lockdown orders went into effect due to the pandemic causing disruption for many. As an essential business SLS remained operational and was able to quickly adopt new protocols. Despite this changing environment SLS continued delivering the same excellence in global sustainability and value recovery for traditional IT assets, in addition to being able to meet the growing demands of data center clients.

In this unprecedented year as work environments shifted, the company developed a new Box program to create better solutions for businesses managing employees and IT equipment remotely. This new service was created in response to client demands. In addition to this, SLS  expanded safety protocols and adjusted internal work environments, ensuring the safety of employees and minimal disruption to clients.

Here are some 2020 highlights:

  • Two more subcontractors in South America, GAG Reciclagem De Electronicos (GAG) and DeGraf Limitada (DeGraf), achieved Responsible Recycling (R2:2013) certification with guidance from the SLS team.
  • SLS is now a partner member of the Dutch Data Center Association, together working on strengthening the economic growth and presence within data centers the region.
  • SLS opened an Innovation Center in Tampa, Florida, focusing on equipment from large data centers and creating cleaner commodity streams to increase recyclability and offer the best value back to our clients.
  • SLS became a Platinum member of the Open Compute Project Foundation (OCP). SLS plays a key role in helping data centers manage ongoing technology shifts, and proactively develops solutions for emerging data center technologies. As a Platinum member of the OCP, SLS will contribute thought leadership, participate in knowledge sharing and will collaborate with hyperscale data centers to advance and extend the life of data center IT assets.
  • SLS was included for the third time in the latest 2020 “Market Guide for IT asset Disposition” report, published by Gartner, a prominent IT research and advisory company.

The SLS blog has remained a valued resource for distributing information regarding the company and industry. Please find the following top five blog posts published during the 2020 calendar year.
