The New Year is a perfect time to reflect on highlights and accomplishments from the past 365 days. 2018 was a significant year for the IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) and recycling industry, with both data security and sustainability taking center stage.

As the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was enacted last May, businesses and governments worldwide began to investigate their data security policies and standards in a new light.  At the same time, the global environmental situation brought a widespread focus on the circular economy and our ability to support lifecycle solutions that stem the growing tide of electronic waste.

In the United States, the fall of e-scrap processor ECS Refining was big news, shining a light on the need for recyclers to balance financial stability with the drive towards innovation to successfully adapt in this ever-evolving industry. For those overseeing their business’ ITAD and recycling programs, this reinforced the importance of performing thorough due diligence of recycler and ITAD vendors to ensure they are fully capable of long-term operations.

As these changes were occurring, our online audience looked to the SRS blog for further insight and guidance in this industry. Here is another look at the top five most viewed posts of the 2018 calendar year.

1. Gartner’s Market Guide For IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) Provides Guidance to IT Executives

The Market Guide for ITAD provides an assessment of the ITAD market and reviews a range of ITAD vendors, one of which is SRS. The financial stability of vendors is an important part of the assessment.

2. 5 Things You Should Never Do With Your Retired IT Equipment

With GDPR coming into effect, the need to secure data and strengthen ITAD programs became paramount.  Using our client-focused experience, we examine common program practices you need to avoid.

3. Electronic Waste Disposal [FAQ]: Did You Know?

Do you have questions about sustainable electronics recycling and IT asset disposition? Over the years many clients have reached out to us with insightful questions. Here are answers to the most frequent questions received.

4. 6 Reasons Why Responsible IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) is Critical

One of the challenges businesses deal with is ensuring data security on the new technology we’re regularly introducing into our work environments. It is important not to lose sight of how to securely and responsibly dispose each of these IT assets.

5.  6 Things You Might Not Know About ITAD

Data security and environmental risks must be responsibly and completely managed when discarding unused electronic equipment. Here are six things you should know (that you might not already) when it comes to ITAD.

In 2019 SRS will continue to develop and innovate our business and ensure our data security and circular economy practices are the strongest in the industry, without compromising our larger corporate stability. We look forward to updating you on these efforts and delivering other insightful commentary to you throughout the year.
