Sims Lifecycle Services (SLS) Unveils Breakthrough in CXL Memory Reuse at OCP EMEA Summit

April 25, 2025

Irvine, CA – Sims Lifecycle Services (SLS) has achieved a first in hyperscale circularity: enabling the large-scale redeployment of recovered DIMM memory into production-grade CXL environments. Powered by SLS’s newly deployed microfactory, this breakthrough marks a turning point in sustainable data center operations. Used memory no longer means second-rate—it means circular first.

This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the Open Compute Project (OCP). Their leadership in reshaping how infrastructure is designed, built, and reused continues to drive real-world sustainability and performance at scale.

At the upcoming OCP EMEA Summit, Sean Magann, Chief Commercial Officer at SLS, will unveil SLS’s breakthrough approach in his presentation Optimizing IT Asset Lifecycles for Efficiency and Sustainability. In this presentation, Sean will outline how SLS is transforming retired infrastructure into a source of performance and sustainability through its DIMM recovery initiative and Rack Renew program.

“This isn’t just reuse—it’s engineering IT circularity at production scale, helping our clients in their quest for what comes next,” said Magann. “We’re leveraging our microfactory to ensure recovered DIMMs meet the performance and reliability demands of live CXL systems.”

CXL’s memory-sharing architecture enables new efficiencies—but it demands absolute confidence in every component. SLS’s microfactory meets this challenge using robotics to sort, test, inspect, relabel, and qualify pre-owned DIMMs for reuse in live environments.

SLS’s Rack Renew program complements this work by repurposing open-source servers, delivering fully functional systems at a fraction of the cost of new hardware.

As hyperscale data centers strive to reduce cost, carbon, and waste, SLS delivers solutions that turn retired IT assets into high-performing, reliable resources—without compromise.
