Not Your Average Upgrades: SLS Gets Creative with 3D-Printed Fixes

At SLS, innovation and continuous improvement are not just goals—they are part of our day-to-day mission of maximizing asset redeployment, ensuring data security and advancing sustainability in the ITAD industry.

The team at our Circular Center in Son en Breugel, Netherlands has creatively developed some adapters to more effectively handle IT assets. The diverse mix of makes, models, sizes and condition of the assets we receive can affect the initial steps of the ITAD process and potentially lead to inefficiencies, inconsistencies, and reduced resale value.

Traditional methods of testing and processing IT assets often involve standard tools or makeshift solutions that fail to provide proper protection or efficiency. This typically leads to increased handling time, cosmetic flaws and additional risk of internal damage during testing and processing, all of which impact asset value.

Recently introduced 3D-printed devices in Son en Breugel help standardize different steps of processing, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and improved quality across a diverse inventory of IT assets. These adaptations also result in the sustainable benefit of minimizing waste, and help to produce higher quality products, increasing resale value to our clients.

Newly designed adapters include:

Tag scrapers, replacing traditional metal scrapers, which reduce cosmetic damage that can occur during the removal of client identifying asset tags.

These devices are specifically designed to accommodate a large variety of assets during testing and processing and streamline the workflow by:

  • Reducing Handling Time – Custom-fit design eliminates the need for manual adjustments, speeding up the loading and unloading process.
  • Improving Accuracy – Secure placement enables accurate testing and grading, reducing human error.
  • Boosting Productivity – A more efficient workflow allows us to process a higher volume of assets in less time.

Increasing Product Resale Value through Innovation

Quality and cosmetic appearance are crucial for maximizing resale value in the secondary IT asset market. The operational efficiencies gained by the new tools help deliver higher resale values, resulting in increased revenue recovery for our clients.

Continuous Improvement and Commitment to Sustainability

At SLS, we’re always looking for clever ways to improve our operations while keeping sustainability at the heart of what we do. Enter 3D printing—our not-so-secret weapon for creating custom tweaks that make IT asset processing smoother and more efficient. These small but mighty modifications help us recover more value from IT assets while reducing waste, proving that sometimes, a little innovation goes a long way. It’s just one of the many ways we’re making IT asset management smarter and more sustainable.
